Visual Communications & Graphics Portfolio
(R.O.P.)
Instructor:
Antonio Sarabia
Course Description:
Since the beginning of
time, even before language, our only form of
communication was symbols and signs. Pictures and
drawings allowed human imagination to soar and
create the complex world in which we now live.
Today, symbols and images are prevalent, so much so
that they often go unquestioned. They surround us,
help define us, inspire us, and give us the
opportunity to express and understand concepts an
thoughts that supersede words. Visual Communications
is not only the study of how we communicate
visually, it is also the study of our fixation on
images, on how images operate, on how they influence
our lives and our opinions, on how they incite our
imagination or aggravate our fears. In this class,
students have an opportunity to create visual
artifacts of their own as well as to understand and
analyze the visual images created by other artists
and those that appear in advertisements and the
images of the society around us.
