This project began as a collaboration between
the R.O.P. Visual Communications and Graphics
class at Sacramento High School and
international artist Claudia Bernardi through
the efforts and support of 40 Acres Art Gallery
in Sacramento, California.
Ms. Bernardi worked with Sac High Juniors and
Seniors every Friday from late October to early
December of 2007. The format of the meetings
were part lecture and part discussion. They
included PowerPoint presentations, slides shows,
movies, a collaborative installation of a sound
sculpture and lengthy discussions on history,
art, and what it means to be an artist with a
social conscience. The unit was accompanied by a
final project that allowed the students to
create some form of composition (in digital
format) that in turn allowed them to say
something about their own social and historical
reality.
