Context Travel: Rome

Thanks to Context Travel, I had a one and a life time experience. I had the opportunity to travel to Rome. I was able to go on amazing tours and experience the city in ways others couldn’t. I was accompanied by a personal guide at all times. I had the chance to see famous architectural wonders like the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Vatican. I even got to go to Naples, a beautiful city. This trip opened my eyes to a lot of things. I was very surprised to see how diverse the city of Rome is. I saw Gypsies, Asians, Spaniards, Africans, Jewish people and people from the West Indies in one small neighborhood.

I was able to shoot great photographs using a Canon 60D camera provided by my Advanced Media Production class. Thanks to the skills I learned in class, I was able to take and edit the amazing photos below. I am currently working on an HD video about the trip which I will post soon.

TV Station Tour

My Advanced Media Production class constantly presents me with many different opportunities. Recently, we were invited to tour the Univision TV station in Sacramento. I thought it was so cool to see the people working there using the same tools I use right in class, only on a much larger scale.

I saw and learned so many different things that day. We saw their huge green screen, their audio booths, and the actual news desk where they shoot their evening news. We visited the server room, editing rooms, and the control room that runs everything at the station.

It made me realize how much goes into making the TV shows and news reports that we see. We actually got to sit and watch our tour guide, Mr. Vasquez, work on a news clip that would be later used on the news that day. It was amazing to see the process and actually understand exactly what was going on because of the projects we’ve done in class.

What really blew me away was when we were introduced to the On Air producer and she showed us her job. It was so mind boggling. She is responsible for everything that the viewers see on their TV’s at home, she takes care of the graphics that come on, chooses which clips will play and keeps the program on schedule. I really enjoyed this experience and hope to be invited on many more.

The first practice of The Heart is a Drum Machine. A friday afternoon after class, we gathered whatever used gear we could find and proceeded to engage in a two hour improvisational jamming session. Because why not?

Students at the Sac High Media lab unveiled this year’s St. Hope Dinner Video at the Sheraton Grand on December 1st. It was the result of over 2 months of work by Akeallah Blair, Monea Stribling and Jada Broughton. It was the first time the students used HD DSLR Cameras. This Video in particular shows just about all the standard film techniques from tracking and panning shots, to focusing effects, to depth of field effects.

Students enrolled in our ROP programs get a hands on education with professional equipment and fun projects that focus on helping the community. We offer students a chance to learn and apply skills in graphic arts, multimedia, audio production and plastic arts.
